driving to France with a baby?

Hubby has his heart set on a villa in Provence for our first holiday with our one year old. We have never done anything like this before, never driven abroad, never been to France, not really sure where to start!
Has anyone done something like this? Could you give me any pointers? We will be setting off from York.

Yes - we do this every year with our 3 dc (3, 8 and 12) and it's great. Which ferry port do you plan to travel from? The ferries are always full of families with young children. Will pop back with some tips.
