Suggestions for October half term
Philly · 27/05/2004 00:06
Has anyone any suggestions for October half term. We'd like it to be warmer than home but does not have to be sunbathing weather.Max about 4 hr flight and probably self catering, childcare not essential but might be nice.We have 3 boys;11,7 and 3.So far are considering Spain,Majorca or maybe Greek Islands or possibly Canaries, does anyone have any ideas?

Just to add we get 2 weeks for half term so can go as early as 15 October

We are going to Spain then, Philly. SenoraPostrophe, who lives in Granada, says the weather is (usually!!!!) lovely then - warm but never boiling.
The early date means you should be able to get quite cheap airfares too. My DSs have an inset day on 22 Oct (a Friday) so we are going then - intended to fly back on Sun 31 but couldn't get affordable flights, the site I was looking at had none at all on Mon 1 Nov so it's going to be Tues 2 and missing 2 days of school - OTOH we get a much longer holiday!
Have a look at this site. You have to make contact via the site with the owners. We were able to book the villa we're going to for 11 nights, Fri-Mon, which made it much easier to find cheaper flights because we avoided the standard Sat-Sat.

We've been to Fuerteventura in the Canaries in the October holidays (twice!), flight approx. 4 hours, not as touristy as the other Canaries (been to all of them) and weather is still in 70's, so hot but not boiling. If you stay in Correlejo, you can get the ferry over to Lanzarote for the day as well

And have a look at Monarch for good airfares and sensible flight times.

Would second the vote for Fuerteventura, esp the northern part of the island where Corralejo is. Southern part (Jandia) is more high-rise and wouldn't be my ideal but in Corralejo there is apparently some local ordnance which prevents high-rise development. The beaches there are also fab, miles of golden sand.

Last 2 years we've been to Menorca for October week. First time lovely weather, second a few dullish days, but the pool was too cold for everyone both times.
We looked at all your places and this time we're going to Tunisia, as I want guaranteed sunshine every day. Still shortish flight time and daytime flights.
