Am I mad to consider going to Tenerife alone with my 6 month old DD in 3 weeks time & she hasnt got a passport yet??

My parents are in Tenerife until mid Feb and have asked me to go over there with my DD for a few days or a week.

Seems so much to think about but I'd really love to go.

My dd hasnt got a passport yet but the Post Office do a check & send which gets the passport back to you within about 2 weeks, so I was thinking of going around the 30 Jan.

Trouble is my passport is still in my maiden name, so I dont know if this will cause any problems.

Also with the security regulations how do you get on with taking a pre-made up bottle of formula on board the aircraft?

Any advice welcome - has anyone else travelled alone with a baby and if so how did you get on??

i wasn't taking chances with the stupidly short amount of time i left before xmas tog et my twins passports. so i went to the passport office.

they do it in a week. - anything wrong with it - they tell you there and then.

A long as you book ticket in the same name as passport that shouldn't be a problem- I hadn't changed mine first time we went away after being married.

I think you have to taste the formula you take through as hand luggage. Other liquids have to be in 100ml of less containers sealed in a plastic sandwich bag. I would have thought you could check airport wbsite for exact details.

As for DD's passport...They can be hit and miss, although they are usually bsier in the Summer so you should be OK. The other option is to actually go to the passport office and get it done on the day, if that service is till avaliable?? I think its costs a bit more than the postal service.

Hope you get everything sorted. Have a good holiday!

can you do that for a first one Custy ? Don't book you ticket until you have a passport. Not sure even Check and Send is infallible as regards the photo etc. The name shouldn't be a problem as long as you book your ticket the same. I always used to travel with amy marriage cert in case.

yeah my kids were a first ( they were on their dads but it was classed as their first)

thing is - if something ont he form is wrong - they send it back - you have to do it all over again and not leave much time

its a gamble

you have to book appt though - you cant just turn up.

ok just spoke to the passport 24 hour advice line, the check and send service is the best route to go down, you submit the application at the post office who check the application form there and then and if all ok they send it off for you and the passport should be back within 2 weeks, may take longer at busy times.

forgot to ask them if a doctor is ok to sign the photo?

Bit worried about the flight and how I'm going to get on, on my own with her, what if i need the loo!!

I'll also need to get a taxi to where my parents are, does anyone know if the taxis have baby seats? I know in the Canaries they tend to be large, clean Mercedes as taxis but still, dont remember ever seeing any with baby seat fittings (not that I would have been looking before though).

doctor fine to sign photo

but they may charge

LIZS · 08/01/2007 20:01

Doctor can sign if he has known you or dh for a certain period of time , but may charge. Doubt local taxis would provide an infant seat.
