Best UK getaways?

I'm looking for a long weekend family holiday in the UK for myself, my dh and dd who is nearly 7... ideally a self-catering cottage-type affair, where we can all get "back to nature" without sacrificing all amenities...! Beautiful countryside a must!

Any recommendations?

How about Centre-parcs. Your dd would love the pool and beach and sports stuff yet the setting is lovely and you can get away from people in the forest walks. (We've had red dear, badgers and all sorts outside our window there).

We often book self catering cottages. Have generally used Welcome Cottages both in England and France and have been really pleased with all the properties we have stayed in.

Have just booked a cottage for Easter week with cottages4you. Really good value. It is a 3 bed 200yo farm house in N Yorkshire. Costing us £406 for the week, including booking fee, insurance and credit card fee.

Yes, we've also done Cottages4U and EnglishCountryCottages. Some of them are very isolated. We went to a lovely one in the Peak District last year.

CenterParcs does look lovely, although I think something like cottages4u would be ideal... I'd really like us to get completely away from it all for a bit :D

many thanks x
