We were thinking of going to Corsica this year, went to Sardinia a couple of years ago and loved it and thought Corsica may be similar,

Our priorty is child friendly, good beaches, good food etc. Looking at a small villa or apartment.

So has anybody been to Corsica and what did you think.

we went last year & really enjoyed it. dp & i plus our 2 children (who were 4 & 1 at the time) went with my parents & brother. we went in june & it was hot (about 32 or 33 degrees i think, i'm a wimp with heat). stayed in nice apartments with a shared pool. good beaches, beautiful scenery, nice food. we really enjoyed it & would go again.

here's a thread i started at the time, lots of tips .

Went last year for a week. Had a fantastic time. Very child friendly. Went with Corsican Places who were excellent. It is expensive but will definitely go again when we have the money. Think the children will enjoy it more when they are older (or maybe appreciate it more). Beautiful place, spectacular scenery, wonderful beaches (although we preferred our pool just because it was easier). Eating out was pretty expensive but good choice if you fancy cooking.

Well I have rung Corsican Places and VFB who are going to send me brochures. One thing though for you corsican experts out there, one recommended the south coast the other recommended the area around Calvi. The brief I gave was for good beaches, we are going with a 3 and 4 year old, dont want to be travelling miles to get anywhere, any ideas on the best place to stay?

We stayed in the La Balagne region in Davia. I think this is an excellent area as the beaches are superb and both Calvi and L'ile Rousse are easily reachable. There are some superb drives through the mountains (I am petrified of heights and edges and cried my way over them). If I remember, Marina warned about the wind in the far south and some of the beaches on the eastern side are really wild. It does get incredibly hot so you will want to be near a town for the children to escape the heat. My children loved Calvi in the evening - strolling along the harbour watching the folks go by and exploring the citadel (amazingly beautiful in the evening).

Been to Calvi area twice and found Calvi to be a great base with a good beach for youngsters (shallow). The South is meant to have slightly better beaches but be more crowded - Sardinia has the best beaches but Corsica has the French style and food in it's favour. Both are wonderful.Do make sure you take the train to Vizzavona in the mountains as the interior of Corsica is beautiful. We loved Corsica.
