can anyone recommend a nice spot in the mountains for the summer, with a pool or lake for swimming, and plenty of activities around? ideally a hotel but would consider self catering. thanks!

We went to Samoens in the French Alps this year - fantastic, outdoor pool in the town and lakes nearby, loads of activities for different age groups. We stayed self catering which was v reasonable price but there are a fair few hotels too. Pretty small town with cafes, restaurants etc too. Definitely recommended!

Sorry that should say last year - August 2015!

Portugal has beautiful lakes and mountains places. Can't remember any specific ones but have a Google.

Reeves de Montagne near Samoens. I agree with poster above, lovely place. Can't do links but Google the above. Superb, we went last summer.

Fly to Geneva then 1hr drive.

Anywhere around Lake Attersee in Austria - you can swim in the lake in the summer.

Another vote for Samoens - and it is only an hour from Geneva Airport (as well as being drivable from the UK.

Sorry lu9months, busy couple of days!
We were in Belgium anyway, so we drove down to the Black Forest. Stayed at the Treschers Romantik right on the edge of Lake Titisee. Not the cheapest but fabulous pool on the lake edge / spa etc.
Swam in the lake (fecking freezing but fab), took a day trip into Switzerland. Went up some mountain (can't remember which one!) in a cable car, walked down. We were only there three nights but could v v easily have filled a week with walks. A visit to Freiburg also highly recommended.
We drove home to the UK in 10 Hours. We are used to long road trips, you could easily break the drive in Belgium.
We had a great holiday and would definitely recommended the Black Forest. Good luck, happy planning Smile
