Recommendations for places like Fountain Abbey or Bolton Abbey that's an hours drive away from London

Hi, over the past couple of years when visiting family up North we visited first Bolton Abbey and then Fountain Abbey and Brimham Rocks and absolutely loved it. Looking for similar places to go to that are an hour or so drive away from East London. So places to walk around, have a picnic with nice views. DC's are nearly 3 and 6 so good to have pitstops along the way to break up the walking. TIA

Trent park near Cockfosters, Epping forest ivinghoe beacon.

I'm going to knebworth this week, hoping that will be good.

But as there are less hills and more people down south it's not going to be the same as Bolton abbey etc as in your op (I'm from the north originally)

Interested to hear others suggestions too.

West Wycombe Park, Hellfire Caves. The Devils Punchbowl in Surrey is very beautiful. Rochester, theres a castle and its quite a nice town to look round. Waltham Abbey. x

Well worth the visit:

Can you venture further down towards English channel?

Then go to Rye. It's lovely.

Anglesey Abbey (in Cambs, not Wales!) might be a bit further than an hour.
In fact there is lots to see and do in and around Cambridge but it can get busy.
The Gardens at Easton Lodge, Gt. Dunmow, including an Italian sunken garden .
Dedham Vale nr Colchester. (Constable country)

Audley End house and gardens, near Saffron Walden
Petworth House and gardens, Surrey
Waddesdon Manor near Aylesbury
