August. 4 of us. Kids will be 9 and 12. We are not massively keen on hot weather but we do want good weather. We are not the type to sit by a poor all day. We do not want to drive there but don't mind flying and then hiring a car once there. What on earth do we do, where do we go??

What is your budget do you mind me asking? Also what sort of stuff do you like doing and where have you enjoyed in the past?

Alps or Italian lakes ? You might get the odd thunderstorm but usually fine and warm.

Budget will depend on whether it's an all inclusive, type of accommodation and services/entertainment included, but say around £4K inc flights.

The Alps and Italian Lakes sound good, but where exactly?

We enjoy food, wine, walking, music, cycling and visiting nice towns. In the past we have enjoyed Eurocamp but don't fancy a caravan holiday (or a tent!) or driving all the way to France. Having other kids our own kids' ages for them to play with is quite important. DH and I don't need to socialise (in fact, we'd rather not).

I'm a bit shocked that a holiday around the Alps/Italian lakes seems to cost us considerably more than say an all inclusive in the Balearics. I guess that's why we always end up going the all inclusive route (and often regretting it). What websites should I be looking at?

off the wall suggestion but we did a week with ocean elements in vassilliki for a sailing and windsurfing holiday and our DC had a fab time. not all inc but breakfast was and lots of places to eat out locally plus the bar food was excellent and reasonably priced. if you want 2 weeks then you could do a 2 centre holiday and travel to another island.
