Hello :) DH, DD (20) DS (15) DD (13) and I are camping for a week in Italy this summer. We are looking to drive there and back. Unfortunately the campsite was not able to offer us more than a week so I am looking to stop over on the way back for 2 or 3 nights maybe in Switzerland or France. Has anyone done this journey and stayed anywhere really nice which maybe will do 2/3 nights at the beginning of August? It would be lovely to have something for the kids to do; they are quite sporty but would equally enjoy something different. We have stopped over at Disney and Parc Asterix previously which was lovely but as they are getting older we thought we would see if we could find something they had not done before. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks. :)

Europapark in Germany? Which route do you plan to cross the Alps ?

Switzerland is gorgeous in the summer. The Interlaken area is lovely and there are great walks with plenty of waterfalls and mountain meadows to see.

You can take the train up to the Jungfraujoch which is the top of Europe and see the Eiger on the way.

You can leave the car at Lauterbrunnen and take the train up to car free Wengen. Lovely walks especially if you take the cable car up to Mannlichen.

We are still flexible on the route and can adapt to suit any stopover :) Europapark sounds perfect for the kids and Interlaken sounds beautiful!! Thanks for the info LIZS and TarteAbricot I will start googling! :)

If they like Sherlock the Reichenbach falls are an easy drive/boat ride from Interlaken. Also the revolving restaurant from James Bond On Her Majesty's Secret Service at Muerren. We also like that area, lots of outdoorsy activities and trips available. Scenery is fab.

If you come back through Germany, Regensburg is a lovely city with stone bridge, cathedral, trips on the Danube and great restaurants. Walhalla just down the road too. Munich is also great - lovely galleries, palaces, beer gardens.
Bavaria in general is fab - Garmisch, Oberammerau, Schloss Linderhof - loads of lovely castles and you can do the Zugspitze too.
