Contract of employment ADVICE NEEDED

My dd has signed a contract of employment for a new job but has not yet received her copy back from her new employer. She has not yet started this job - she should start on Monday 8th of January - and she is thinking of not taking this position so that she could move back home instead. Does anyone know what she could expect from her employer if she did not start the job? Could she be sued or any such thing?

I would advise your dd to speak to the HR dept and be honest about the change in her circumstances. I work for a supermarket and it is extremely frustrating when people just don't turn up or get someone to phone in for the. You never know, she may want to work for them again in the future.
