We are going to the Mumsnet Summer party in August which is being held in a field somewhere in Somerset.

After that we have about a week to fill with leisure activities

So I would love any recommendations on good things to do in England. We like nature - so any forests with big trees are good. Good camping grounds. Good places to eat.

Oh and great places to SHOP - which dh & I love to do together - especially any funky clothes shops that aren´t difficult to get to!

Any recommendations would be great!! ( Our dd will be 10 months old.)

Thanks NDP - we wiould like to travel further afield than Somerset.

I went to Wales along time ago and I think that is near Somerset?

How long does it take to get to the north of England from there?

Wales is fairly close (ish) to Somerset. It'll take you around 2.5 hours to get to South Wales from Somerset (obv depending on which part you are in!).

At a guess I would say expect getting to the North (Manchester ish) from Somerset to take around 4.5 hours + in a car.

Wales has fantastic scenery and some beautiful beaches but there isn't much to do in the way of shopping, unless you plod into Cardiff (the capital). here is the Welsh Toursit Board site

Manchester is fantastic for shopping, the city centre is a designer store mecca. Shop 'til you drop!

Bath is a beautiful city, lots of fantastic architecture etc.

I also loved Brighton for the cafe culture, great shops, relaxed people and the seaside element.

Pembrokeshire in Wales is simply beautiful, some breath taking coastline and magnificent scenery, but beware it does get veryyyyy clogged up with tourists !

Bath is pretty good for shopping too, Bristol even better (or was, quite a few years since I went). It's not England, but you could consider Edinburgh! (Glasgow's great for shopping too).

You can get very cheap flights from Bristol to Edinburgh with Easyjet , not that I'm pushing it or anything

we will predominately be travelling my automobile, but would love to do some offline MN meetups will have to check out the meet up board.

Have to have one at Brentcross or wagnmmans

Would quite like to get up to Northern england pretty quickly .. although the Eden project sounds interesting

Papillon, if you make it this far North I will happily meet up with you. It will be the Edinburgh Festival when you're in the UK, so that's worth bearing in mind. Maybe Janh will be here aswell and we can have a proper meet-up

What are the festival dates, tamum? DH and I were talking about this yesterday, we are definitely intending to come up, is beety's do on the middle weekend? (Hm, am assuming it lasts for 2 weeks, is it actually longer than that? I am a Festival virgin!)
