Early flight with children - hotel or not?

We're flying out of stansted in late April at 6.45 am on a Wednesday and live about 90min drive away. We can't decide whether to get an airport hotel and parking, but still have to get up at 4am, or drive down and have to negotiate dropping the car at a car park and lugging luggage and tired grumpy me dc at stupid o'clock. Dc will be 2 and 4.5 but the 4.5yo has form for being very uncooperative and refusing to move if he's not carried...!

It's £210 for the radisson which is the only on airport hotel. Other hotels are cheaper but there's still the driving to car park bit in the morning with only slightly more sleep.

What have other people done for early morning flights? apart from not booking them

I would vote for not staying in the hotel.

Difficult for you to sleep when all together in the one room and you still have to get up ridiculously early anyway. Different if staying in a hotel meant you could get up at 6am or something.

I hate to say it but that's why some flights are cheap - it's because of their fiendishly horrible departure times.

Thanks all, have definitely decided against hotel as just not worth it on balance. Unfortunately the early flight is the only option for verona from Stansted. Luton next time!
