Hoping someone will know what the legalalities are of an 8 year old travelling, with a booster seat, in his Mum's front passenger seat. Our daughter and Grandson have been staying with us over Christmas and New Year and they are due to tavel home to Scotland on Saturday. The problem is that we may have gone a tad overboard with Christmas presents, including a bike, and now our dd is worried about getting it all home. We suggested putting the bike in the back of the car and our gs travel in the front with her. She is unsure if this is legal or not. Anyone know please.

Yes, it is legal, with a booster seat and seat belt.

Not sure about the legal side but you cant do it if there is a passenger airbag.

It's not illegal so long as he is on a booster seat - BUT - if she has an air bag it could be dangerous !! Best thing is to turn off air bag if possible - and in eirther case put seat back as far as it will go.

My dd is 6 and travels in the front all the time - airbag has switch and is off.

Her car does not have a passenger airbag only a driver one

That's fine then !! Seat back as far as possible - booster seat and seatbelt & all is well !

law on child seats

here, quite legal

The airbags advice applies to babies in rear-facing seats, though you may want to make sure the child's seat is put far back to minimise any contact in the unlikely scenario of a crash involving the airbag.

Thanks everyone, thats such a relief. We had visions of trying to explain to a distraught little boy that he could'nt take his brand new bike home with him.
