Build your own package on Expedia it Lastminute rather than trying tour operators? Might be cheaper.

ukgirlatheart · 24/02/2016 11:08

done that aswell flights are ridiculous

champagneplanet · 24/02/2016 11:16

I was on Thomas Cook yesterday and was getting August for £1800 in Majorca for three of us, that was flights from Manchester.

The prices are horrendous!

ukgirlatheart · 24/02/2016 11:29

Yes apparently Spain is up 27% on bookings as holidays to Turkey, Eygpt, Greece and Cyprus are down. Ive found a few on Expedia but mainly bed and breakfast for around £1,800 but still alot

Package holidays are always such a rip off. We go to marbella every august, roughly 1k or under for 6 of us.

ukgirlatheart · 24/02/2016 11:37

How on earth do you do that Danglyweed????

OP posts:
Danglyweed · 24/02/2016 11:57

Stay at apartments on letsgomarbella.com, varies between 250-500 p/w, this time 500. Flights with ryanair edinburgh to malaga this august were 600ish. So 1100 for the 6 of us. Have been several times in feb, april and october holidays, cheapest we've been able to get flights and apartment before the dt's came along was about 500... means we can go two or three times a year Grin

Cassimin · 24/02/2016 12:01

I booked Ryanair to Portugal last week. Not too expensive.
Usually Malaga flights aren't too dear as there are so many of them. Then you've got the whole of the coast to look for accommodation.

krisskross · 24/02/2016 12:05

Hi, we have two Dc and realised a couple of years ago we couldn't afford the cost of school holidays holidays. So, uncharacteristically we took a massive deep breath, bought loads of camping stuff and now go camping in France every summer. I never thought I would be a camper.....but you can stay in a five star campsite with amazing facilities for about a third of cost of a mobile home. Worth considering.

Kirriemuir · 24/02/2016 16:29

Dangly, if you know Marbella do you know any good hotels? I don't want self catering.

Danglyweed · 24/02/2016 18:35

Sure kirrie, depends what you want at resort/hotel, whos going(kiddies?), when you would be going etc

rookiemere · 24/02/2016 18:38

Where are you flying from?

Eminybob · 24/02/2016 18:46

Try Thomas Cook.

I just searched your dates, all incl, and there were several around £1500.

I put in from Manchester as I don't know where you'd be flying from so that may make the difference.

DrSeussRevived · 24/02/2016 18:46

Fly from LGW to Malaga direct on 8th, return on 13th, £745 for three flights

Kirriemuir · 24/02/2016 18:54

Dangly, one DS who is 8. Summer time early July.

Danglyweed · 24/02/2016 20:22

Have sent you a message kirrie

SJane45S · 25/02/2016 15:05

ukgirl - we never go package and while these destinations are what I'd probably pick and might not be what you'd go for, it took me less than 10 minutes to find the following:

Flights on the 8th (Monday's are cheaper than Sundays) - Gatwick to Barcelona - 2 adults, 1 child £356 on EasyJet coming back on the 15th. 4 star hotel with pool - Hotel SB Diagonal Zero Barcelona - one week from the 8th at £809 on Expedia for 2 adults, one child.

Or Flights for 3 to Nice on the 8th coming back on the 15th to/from Gatwick - £217. 4 star hotel in Nice on promenade with pool - 2 adults one child - Radisson Blu £1369. Or take a 20 minute train ride to Beaulieu sur Mer and stay at the Hotel Carlton (4 star with pool) for £1273.

As above, just examples but shop shop around!!

bimandbam · 25/02/2016 15:11

I got self catering for 4 of us to a decent hotel in tenerife for £1500 up last night in august. Hotel doesn't have slides etc but there is a decent waterpark for that. Pool nice and in los Cristianos so 10 minutes from the beach. And I have always found tenerife cheap enough to not need ai.

It depends if you are prepared to compromise on what you want. I looked at majorca too and found the accommodation pretty expensive. And we love tenerife. I was quite surprised with the price if I am honest. Thought it would be more than that in the main weeks.

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 26/02/2016 11:04

We are looking for 2 weeks in Augsut as we usually do and prices work out around 2k for 4 of us.

We always book our own flights and accomadation separately. Package holidays can be very expensive.

ukgirlatheart · 28/02/2016 09:20

Bin what's the name of yr hotel I'll take a look

OP posts:
bimandbam · 28/02/2016 21:39

H2 in los Cristianos. Its part of 2 hotels and you can use facilities at both but that one had the better pool. Its cheap and cheerful. Clean enough and in a nice enough location. That was flying from Manchester.

There is another hotel, something golf we stayed at a few years, in las americas that was nice too. And have a look at porto colon. Laguna park 1 was lovely but don't go to laguna park 2 unless you like hills!

ukgirlatheart · 28/02/2016 23:18

Looks great how did u book this Bin separately???

kriskross do you use eurocamp or smaller campsites ? we are considering doing this this year but have never been camping abroad before

bimandbam · 29/02/2016 16:26

Sorry yes H10.

I looked on travel republic, found flights then looked for the hotel. I have used travel Republic for the last 9 years!
