We were taking the children to Fort William but decided it is too far (with our children anyway) for a couple of days. So we're now looking for somewhere interesting but also fun within a couple of hours drive of Brum. Bristol looks good although the @ bristol looks quite pricey I think.

Can anyone recommend somewhere fun and interesting. Would like to go tomorrow, stay overnigth and return on Friday evening.

I live in Bristol, would def recommend as a place to visit (but maybe I am biased ). Have not been to @Bristol with kids, but is a bit pricey (and the sciency bit is not as good as The Science Museum for example). WOULD recommend the Great Britain, which has recently been completely refurbished, new exhibition and a bit where you go sort of under water level to see the hull, as well as cabins, state rooms and kitchens etc all furnished.

Everything in the city centre is fairly close together, so good for walking, but bear in mind that the shopping centre bit (Broadmead) is being dug up and rebuilt so a bit chaotic at the mo.

I live near York - there's the York Eye and Railway Museum, great shops, ghost walks, Waterworld swim place, The Dungeon Museum (very gory and great for older kids), river rides, Viking Museum, Castle Museum, roman walls - might even still have ice skating on (At Clifford's Tower, very central). Very beautiful city, easy to walk round.
