My and my dp are looking into christmas abroad next year with our then 3yr old ds.

Does anyone have any suggestions where we could go - want it to be warm and sunny. Preferably from past experience?

Also any tips etc. Have no idea where we could go, flight times, s/c / all inclusive, costs, etc.

We went to Barbados last year, don't go there! It was really overpriced and we could have gone to the canaries for the same experience and a fraction of the money!!! (A friend of mine goes over christmas and new year each year and for 2 ads, 2 kids spends £75 grand!!!! That's at Sandy Lane tho, which is silly expensive at any time but doubles at chrimbo) Dubai is great, it's warm but not too hot in Dec and is only a relatively short way away (6 hours). It's also really clean and westernised so you don't have to worry about the food and water like you would in the far east. Or Florida, that's nice in December (can be wet tho, it's a shame to go all that way and then have it peeing it down all the time) Cancun is also supposed to be very nice, I have friends who swear by it - it's basically a purpose built resort for americans so you kind of know what you are getting and you can get very good value for money. Lots of all inclusive places here, but from past experience I am not keen on all inc, the food can be a bit crappy. Hope that helps a bit!Oh and obviously the canaries are close to home and quite cheap, and popular. It's warm there in dec, but not blazing sun (mid 20s at best). There, that's my recommendations!

wow thanks gingermonkey thats great, really didn't have a clue where to start looking. I know what you mean about all inclusive food, I'm a real foodie so would be so disappointed if food wasn't up to scratch!

Am off to travel agents in town tomorrow for some brochures will let you know how I get on.

Good Luck! We are thinking of going away in feb half term, prob to the canaries. DS will be almost 16 mths and the thought of anywhere too far just distresses me! He doesn't like to be held, or to just sit still at all for that matter! I'd like to go a bit further but we may have to wait a year or so. We were supposed to do Australia for christmas, but I bottled it because of the flights! I'm a chicken! DD is now 7 and she was great on the plane. We went to New York when she was ds's age and she sat still the whole time and played. At least with 3 yr olds you can reason with them a bit and they understand bribes! Have fun brochure shopping. I dream of sunshine, think I'll go and get some brochures too, just to get myself all excited!

do you like the canaries then? have never been, i dream of sun too LOL think i have that SAD thing! Would move to sunnier climes if i could

I love travelling and want to do more of it, aus is on my wish list too, but I am putting it off for same reasons, a wriggly toddler and a long flight don't mix!

It depends what sort of thing you are looking for really but if you wanted something that would be very easy with 3 year old (lots of activities and stuff) then I would go somewhere like the First Choie holiday village in Dominican Republic or a cruise either going round East and West Carribean or Med.

My Mum lives in the Costa del Sol and we have spent a few Christmas' there, we have had lovely weather every time and if you stay in an apartment or villa and hire a car you can do your own thing rather than be part of a complex.

Thinking of going to Costa Calida this time next year but never been in the winter before so can't confirm if it will be good or not.

To be honest KS, I think if I wasn't a mum I would avoid the canaries! But dd reckons Lanzarote was the best holiday she has ever been on! We have been twice and when we go away in feb I think we may try a different Island. It's good for the kids and with more predictable weather than mainland spain. There are some very nice hotels and very nice places but if it was me and dh we would go to so many different places around the world. I kind of don't look forward to going and then when we get there think, 'oh, this is great, lovely' and have a fab time watching the kids splashing about and being in the sunshine! One of the kids at school has gone to Las Vegas for Christmas, I love it there (it's so tacky it's good - somehow!!!) but although the hotels are out of this world and the facillities amazing I wouldn't take the kids. Dh has been told we will go to Aus when we can all go business class - I am not prepared to have wriggly kids squashed into those regular seats for 24 hours!!! So it looks like Aus is a long way off!!!! (but I do really want to go). There's so many places I want to experience with the kids, but with a 6 yr age gap I have one perfect aged dd (7) and one wriggly ds (15mths). Didn't plan that very well!!!! Think Cuba is a definate in the next year, old man Castro is on his way out so it will change so much in the next few years or so...
