Have a great time, where are you going?

specialsubject · 01/02/2016 12:10

you say medical insurance - I take it that is full travel insurance which covers cancellation, delays, theft etc?

only thing that seems missing is 'tell bank and credit card companies you are going so cards don't get blocked'.

enjoy!

AnyFucker · 01/02/2016 12:11

where you off to ?

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 01/02/2016 12:23

Florida :)

Yes it's travel insurance.

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 01/02/2016 12:26

Never booked a holiday abroad before, so this is all new to me.

AnyFucker · 01/02/2016 12:28

oooh, lovely Smile

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 01/02/2016 12:35

I hope so as this is my fag money going into it. I worked out I was spending around £3000 a year smoking, rather put that into a plane and have a really good family holiday.

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 01/02/2016 12:36

Fair do's

FGS, don't start smoking again then Smile

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 01/02/2016 12:44

I can't now, got a holiday to pay for then book another when I get back.

It's my dream to travel the world.

As above. Also:

Provide Advanced Passenger information (passport details) to airline.

Photocopy of all your passengers passport identification pages, in case of loss or damage, so that you can get a replacement.

With booking/selecting your seats, you may need to print out your own boarding passes for each passenger.

Currency and other payment options. We have a pre-loaded cash card to pay in shops and restaurants and can also withdraw cash from ATM. Not linked to bank account. DH has a Halifax Clarity credit card for holiday use as you can specify the credit limit, it's not linked to any other account, and is insured against theft or fraud.

In addition to leaving key with someone, will they also put out your wheelie bins/wheel them back, water plants/hanging baskets, make sure you have at least fresh milk/bread on return?

I usually have the cattery money ready at home before we go away, one less thing to worry about.

You'll need ESTAs for each person travelling.

Don't forget transfers from the airport in Florida, check they're included if you've bought a package. They aren't automatically included!

Read the small print for travel insurance and make sure you've got adequate cover. You need millions in medical cover alone. Don't scrimp on insurance cover!

AnyFucker · 01/02/2016 12:50

ESTA ?

VegasIsBest · 01/02/2016 12:55

You've said passports still to do. These are most important as they can take a while. And then do ESTAs immediately as others have said.

You won't need an EHIC card for Florida.

Are you going to Disney? You'd need to think about tickets and book any character meals etc.

'Thedibb' is a really good forum for Florida holiday advice.

Have fun 😄

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 01/02/2016 13:15

It's not till August 2017 so got plenty of time to do passports.

I was told a vpn would be enough.

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 01/02/2016 13:32

Now that is planning ahead Smile

Sidge · 01/02/2016 13:37

[[https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/ This is the official ESTA page.

But don't get it yet if you're not going for another 18 months - they only last 2 years or until your passport expires!

Sidge · 01/02/2016 13:39

esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/

Sorry buggered up link. Try again.

AnyFucker · 01/02/2016 13:40

a US visa

why didn't you that ? Wink

AnyFucker · 01/02/2016 13:40

*say

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 01/02/2016 14:02

Is there any reason the VWP may not be successful.

AnyFucker I think I have read so many threads on MN on Aibu and chat about travelling I just want it to run as smooth as possible.

I think I wrote out loads of question for the travel agent.

OP posts:
Sidge · 01/02/2016 14:18

AnyFucker cos it's not a visa Grin

Piper what do you mean? ESTAs rarely get refused I believe, unless you've got certain diseases, convictions or there is a problem with your UK residency/citizenship/identity/whatever you have. Then you need to apply for a visa which can be problematic.

AnyFucker · 01/02/2016 14:20

It's just as well I stick to Europe for my holidays then Smile

Sidge · 01/02/2016 14:45

Ha! It makes life simpler I think Smile
