Villas holiday, near a nice resort short drive to a big town for days out but where?

This will be our first villa holiday as a family as we've always wanted the dc's to have other children nearby, but they're now all young teens. We'd like to be somewhere that has a small town close enough for them to walk into if they want and also say an hour away from a big town that we could do a day trip to. We're thinking Europe and warm in August. Budget £5 - £6k for five of us. Any ideas?

Menorca. Lots of resorts eg Cala n Bosch with a wide range of nice villas. Cituiadella lovely old town for trips.
Cala n Bosch has a Marina with restaurants and bars around - very safe imo for teens to wander in and out.

just booked a trip to crete for 5 in a villa for this sort of budget. we are staying on the edge of elounda which is about an hour from the airport. plenty to see and do for our teens. message me if you want more details happy to pass them on. we booked cheap EasyJet flights and a car following a recommendation from the villa owner. 4 bed villa with pool. we have also been on a sailing holiday with ocean elements for a week. perfect for teens. kept busy during the day if they wanted with an afternoon teens club which mine loved.
