Hua Hin or Ko Samui

Can anyone tell me the difference between these two resorts in Thailand?

Will be travelling with dh and two children 12 and 15.

We like to spend some time at the hotel but also like to do excursions and to be able to walk to nice restaurants of an evening.

Bumping as we're also looking at these two.

Ko Samuel has a great full moon party on the next island along. Hua hin doesn't.

I've been to Hua Hin but not K S. From what ive seen It's far more Thai than K S. It's a traditional holiday destination for Bangkokians and a lovely place. The beach is nice but not gorgeous like KS looks. KS looks far more of a beach destination.
One of the good things about Hua Hin is its easy to get to Bangkok and the river kwai etc if you want to travel a bit.
