Hiya,

We're going to be driving to Germany in the spring, when I'll be about 7mo pregnant. It's going to be me, DH, DS (1yr 1mo at that point) and the dog (terrier). Yes, we are a bit crazy. Anyway...

Should we bite the bullet and just drive till we get there? Or are there good reasons for making a stopover, say in Belgium? There are some hotels that accept dogs.

We'll be in a Toyota Verso, we think. Generally DH and I are good drivers, even long haul, but it's the kid and the dog I don't know about!

Cheers & Happy Christmas

Break it up - you'll need at least a stop every 3 hours for the dog just to stretch its legs as well as you. I got terribly cramped in the car when driving long distances when pregnant. Make it all part of the excitement and holiday. Oh and good luch

Is it a holiday? Or are you living there? If its a holiday I would go straight through. I have done 15 hours with 2 kids - they were 2.5 and 8 months at the time. Sitting in the back helps things. Snacks are a good activity rather than big meals.

Perhaps see how you are doing and stop if you need to, otherwise aim to go straight through.

Luck even, good to tell I'm rushing everywhere at the moment. Try Bach rescue remedy for the dog - totally harmless and will keep it quiet for the journey.

I'd say stop over in Belgium. I live in Belgium and drove UK-Belgium when I was 7 months pregnant with DD2 and DD1 was a lively toddler and found that Belgium-UK in one day was enough.

Ha ha, I thought it was "lunch" and immediately thought "mmm yes, Belgian food is nice, that's a thought..." can you tell I'm pg?!?

It's holiday. Going to see Oma (Gran) who lives near Stuttgart for 2-3 weeks.

Anywhere in Belgium you'd suggest? Is there actually a hotel that will have the right kiddie bed and tolerate our lovely but active dog?

Thx again...

Oh wait, and Bach Rescue Remedy for a dog?!? Really? Just spray it in their mouth? How much/often?

i agree with belgo. we drove to belgium in february, in a people carrier, when i was 5 months pregnant and with a 4y old. it was a long day! i can recommend norfolk line ferries. they go from dover to dunkerque.

Take your time & stop. We live in Austria and have done the trip with DS (and dog) when DS was 5 months and then age 2. Both times we stopped overnight, you need time to exercise dog & wear out child IYSWIM, (also done it when DS was 3 & 4 but used motorail Austria-Dusseldorf.
