Travelling on Christmas eve morning so most people should be in a jovial mood hopefully. DD won't have her own seat though i'm hoping there may be a spare one on the day.

What are your top tips for keeping a very active, vocal and inquisitive toddler in hand please? Flight is about 2.5 hours.

DOn't know about your dd but you could amuse yourself by thinking of me trying to do it for almost 30 hours at the end of Jan

LieselVonGiftwrapp · 13/12/2006 12:56

Where are you going in Jan?

Phenergan - believe me after 2 hours to Majorca last easter with a 18 month old I will either never fly again till he is about 4 or I will drug him - 2 hours of screaming and then him fallig asleep as soon as the wheels touched down leaving me to carry him as adead weight through the huge mass of corridors that make up Palma airport!!

LieselVonGiftwrapp · 13/12/2006 13:01

Wheres Phenergan?

We're going to Wellington in NZ. Long flight to Auckland and then a short, usually incredibly rough, hop down to Wellington. We'll all be in a sad old state by the time we arrive but at least will have in-laws on hand. It's the coming home I dread, with no help and jet lag etc etc Oh deep joy....

WHAT IS YOUR FLIGHT?
I travel a lot with ds he jsut keep his routine...
When we fligh in the morning he is awake a lot...

In the afternoon after lunch..he usually sleep...
I never gave him calpol or medised...
I always ask to move where I have an extra seat..
and we always travel comfortable...

I MEAN WHAT TIME??

When we did the long haul with dd at 20 months I found that a few bits of lego and playing with airline crockery kept her really happy for a long time.

New toys that haven't been seen before
Drink at take off
Don't take toys with small pieces, you may well be picking them up off the floor all the time
Take a change of clothes for you, baby & anyone else travelling with you, incase dd sick or spills something. My dd decided to tip water all over dh
Favourite blanket to cuddle up to for naps
Training pants for in flight, easier to change in the tiny loos
Easy comfortable clothing. Dd travelled in Jog pants & shirt. Avoid fiddly buttons & poppers
Don't worry about what people say AT ALL
Snacks that you know she will like. The food dd got she wouldn't have eaten at all. Curried rice and the like! Try to avoid high sugar content as may send hyper

My dd did a flight to Oz when she was 20 months. I didn't give her Medised (didn't occur to me & wouldn't have wanted to anyway) but she didn't need it. Same on flight back too. It was much easier than I expected. Same again when she was 2.10.

Thanks for the tips [smile0. The flight is just to Rome so not very long at all. She doesn't really have a comforter at all apart from her thumb . I have bought a doodle pad and some washable pens today. I'll cut up lots of fruit assuming security don't mind??? Not sure. She loves raising so i'll take some of those too. The flight is about 8 am ish, can't remember exactly but obviously, we will have been up for a couple of hours. I think/hope she'll be ok just being in a confined space, she might get cabin fever. If they sit us next to a gorgeous Italian man, she can flirt to her hearts content and show him her shoes for the whole flight. it's her chat up line you know

DD poo'd right as we were disembarking. I had to change her on the seat while all the people were getting off. Nice. Think dh was horrified!
