Is Tobermory nice? It looks gorgeous on the net but has anyone been? Would it be worthwhile for 2 adults to go or is it just a holiday destination for kids? Last question...any cheap B&B's on the island within walking/bus journey distance to Tobermory?

We visited August 2005. Very disappointed. Took the Ferry from Oban very early one morning and drove up to Tobermory (about 1 hr). The Main street is recognisable as Balmory but there was nothing to actually see apart from the outside of the buildings. There was 1 or 2 souvenir shops and a grumpy old bag (from London) serving in the Chemist we went into. I live in London so didn't expect to go all that way and still get an attitude about the kids touching something they shouldn't. To pass the time till the return Ferry we went to a Farm which was pretty nice as the children fed the lambs there. We stayed in Oban so have no knowledge of local B&B.

Its a very beautiful island, white sand beaches etc. Not sure if you can get round it by bus though. Tobermory is sweet and I found it child friendly. Theres not a great deal to do in the town though. Not sure about b&bs though but they will be on the tourist website. Actually I think Miss Hoolies house is a b&b.

Not Tobermory to stay - the rest of the island is far nicer imo.

We went this year. We drove to Oban and went as foot passangers on the ferry we saw dolphins leaping in the water, when we got to Mull a mini bus picked us up from the ferry port, DD2 spent the whole time saying 'mummy its not edie credy its just a man" 40 mins later when we rounded the headland and started down into the harbour she yelled "it is it is it is ITS BALAMORY" TBH josie jumps house was the most recognisable. I wouldn't want to stay there but even DS1 who is 8 enjoyed the trip.
