Rome hotels

Can anyone recommend a cheap and cheerful hotel for a short break in Rome please?
I have no knowledge of the city so don't know which areas to look at for ease of transport links, restaurants etc.

Essentially it's a B&B, owners could not be more helpful. Central location, great breakfast & roof terrace. Rooms small, but I didn't go to Rome to sit in a hotel
