Where would you go in half term (next week)?

Proper first world problem I know but we are unexpectedly in a position to go away somewhere next week.

We are a family of five so there's bugger all left in the package holiday department. It's so hard to find the interconnecting rooms or family suites big enough.

We looked at:
Legoland Windsor but weather looks shitty.
London to see a show - omigod, 100 quid a ticket?!! Not worth it for two hours.
New York. Ha! I felt silly for looking - £4kpp
Disneyland Paris - also don't feel it's worth the £4k price tag for 3 nights. And not great weather.
Canaries - still looking at villas...

Anyway, what would you do?

I would either go somewhere hot and relaxing or stay home and splurge on trips/days out.

TarkaDarling · 20/10/2015 20:23

Yes! Me too! But where?

I've run out of ideas.

Canaries? (I see you're looking at villas)

Cyprus?

If you want long haul then maybe Dubai? (I know lots of people hate it but if you want a do nothing but soak up the sun holiday then you'll get it)

TarkaDarling · 20/10/2015 21:20

wouldn't do dubai, but how's Cyprus this time of year?

Try Barcelona Lots of apartments still on booking.com website and prob others including 2 beds. Cheaper flights often available from budget airlines as not seen as holiday type place Still nice and warm plus beach zoo shopping etc

TarkaDarling · 20/10/2015 21:34

oh good idea, thank you!

We usually go to our property in Spain in Isla Canela.
It's warm enough to go in the sea, although the pool can be a bit cold. Usually 24-28 during the day but a bit colder at night.
It's quiet so not sure there would enough for your Dc to do but we can't go this year so it will be empty, PM me if you want details.

TarkaDarling · 20/10/2015 21:45

ok, I'm quite taken by Barcelona!

Any suggestions of areas to stay?

Thank you

Prob best asking on another thread for best area to stay, we went a couple of years ago in October half term but not really ok with area we stayed in. Enjoyed Neu Camp for football fiend beach shopping for dd1 Sagreda Famillara and Barcelona Cathederal for culture.
Hope you get the holiday you need.

Cyprus is lovely at this time of year, not too hot, pretty much perfect. I have family there and they swear it is the best time of the year - they are in paphos if that helps.. We are off to the south of Italy on Saturday and I have no idea what to expect, anyone wiser than me???

We like the Poblenou area of Barcelona, easy access to beach, tube etc. We usually walk everywhere but can get into the main tourist areas fairly quickly. It's quietish and family oriented, and the main street (Ramblas Poblenou) is great for strolling and eating in the evening, away from the crowds in the centre.

Don't forget to book the popular sites on line before you go... Sagrada Familia, the 'monument' area of Parc Guell, the Picasso Museum. Even the open top buses can be booked on line.

Is the weather really looking shitty? Sad We've had some ace holidays in the UK over October half term (Norfolk and Pembrokeshire). If you can find somewhere with a pool it helps.

TarkaDarling · 21/10/2015 10:45

We're going to Barcelona, HOORAY!

Thanks for the ideas Smile
