Has anyone been to this recently, in the last year or so? I'm aware it's where MMC disappeared and I don't really want to get into that side of things, but I'm more interested in how it is since Mark Warner pulled out. I've read reviews on Trip Advisor saying certain pools or restaurants are closed, even in peak times, and it's worried me. It's very good value for next summer (for obvious reasons I guess), but I don't want to go somewhere if we can't use the facilities. Thank you.

We were last in Luz last October and even at that time of year it was still busy during the day, although not a busy place at night. We stayed in the Baia da Luz (sp) which is a nice aparthotel 5 mins from the Ocean Club.

Oh that's interesting, we were considering that as a base too. What did you think of it? I've read the pools are very cold, is that the case? Also, are they friendly for children? It looks a very grown up resort?

Two pools, one for children and families, the other for adults. The children's one gets more sun and was busy, the adult one was very cold, but it was October.
It's only a stroll from the beach and restaurants and the on site Italian restaurant is excellent. We found it very friendly and it was ideal having two bedrooms as we have teenage DS. Dh went to the supermarket in the mornings for pastries and bread for breakfast, so we thought it was good having the kitchen for making tea and coffee, light lunch type of stuff.
