Hi

I am looking To go away November/ December time budget of about 3k. It will be a delayed honeymoon we have a 1 year old. I'm not too bothered about flight time but am stuck between beach holiday or city break? Are city breaks any fun with baby's?

Does anyone have any ideas of where to go on that budget

I would love to do New York but would this be a waste with a 1 year old

Are you looking to have access to childcare? Or are you OK to have your baby with you all the time? If you want childcare then I'd be tempted to look at an all inclusive beach resort.

New York is brilliant but in November/December it will be very cold. And getting baby in and out of buildings and adding and removing layers appropriately can be a pain. Without childcare you'd also be limited in what you can do in the evenings. Theatres and concerts etc. probably won't be possible. But if that's not your thing then it won't matter. I love New York I can (and have) spent days in the Met alone.

You also want to take the time difference into account. Little babies don't understand jetlag and it's harder to get them adjusted to a different timezone. That might mean that somewhere in Europe or Africa is a better choice for you. How about a Safari somewhere with a few days on the beach to finish the holiday off?

It would be a lovely bonus though if it was available but wouldn't base it on that!

I think I've discounted New York for now as I'd like to eat out at night so will wait till the baby is older

Safari would be amazing but would that be massively out of budget?

Can anyone recommend any specific resorts or places?

Baby and safari don't mix in my view. Wildlife viewing is at set times and not baby friendly!

I would look at somewhere like San Diego. Beaches nearby (LA Jolla) and an interesting city. Or go to Cape Town and hire a car for a week and do the Garden Route. Guest houses are great places to stay in SA and not too expensive. The flights are pricy but the Rand is very good value at the moment.

It is a cheaper time to visit the Caribbean so there are some excellent places there, eg British Virgin Islands, Grenada and St Lucia that might be of interest. BVI is more expensive but self catering is possible. Florida would be in budget and Cuba too.

The Caribbean islands or Mexico (Cancun down to Tulum) would be within your budget. Certain that you would get 2 wks in Mexico on an all inclusive package.
Weather would be lovely and warm in all of these and you'll have lovely pools and beaches with your little one.
Beautiful locations so you would feel like you are on honeymoon
Florida is lovely although not as hot at that time of the year.
