Car Hire in Sardinia, has anyone taken the new certificate with them from the DVLA?

My Italian friends reckon I wont need to show it, said they will be years behind the new rules.
I'm not so sure.

Take it- it only takes seconds to do. But they prob won't look at it- Avis in France not interested last week!
