If you've lost the combination code for a suitcase, how in the world does one get it opened?

If it is for a 15 year old his phone lock combination? Without last number?

fitnessforlife · 15/07/2015 10:27

Enko Nope.

How many numbers? If it's three it won't take you more than half an hour.

You can save yourself a lot of trouble by just sitting down with it, and going through the numbers one by one, methodically, pulling it slightly at every change.

It becomes a routine and requires very little skill or time.

Or you can just take a chainsaw to it and ruin the suitcase Smile

fitnessforlife · 15/07/2015 10:37

Enko Nope as in didn't work.Sad

Sophie it has 3 numerals.

Cut case open.

Buy new case.

Learn.

Sounds harsh, but once the 15yo has had to pay for a new case, I am pretty sure it won't happen again.

catzpyjamas · 15/07/2015 10:42

I would seriously put the 15 year old to use on this!
Tell him you know there's money left inside Wink

SophiePendragon · 15/07/2015 10:42

Crikey it will literally take you a few minutes, I do this almost weekly for my 12yo who forgets his combination.

Why on earth would anyone wreck a suitcase when it is only a question of trying all the numbers?

fitnessforlife · 15/07/2015 10:44

Sophie Where are you? can i bring suitcase and DS round yours Grin

SophiePendragon · 15/07/2015 10:47

I would love to do it for you!!! I was about to offer! I am probably nowhere near you though.

fitnessforlife · 15/07/2015 11:03

Sophie You're very kind Smile

I'm actually in the middle of exams so haven't got the time to go through all the numbers, but will crack on with it from Friday, so i'll let all know if i manage to crack it.

Good luck Grin It honestly does not take very long at all. Ten minutes last time I did it. You'll be fine. just remember to pull slightly every time you change a digit. It soon becomes second nature.

unlucky83 · 15/07/2015 11:11

Seriously try the trying to open as you turn and wiggle the dial as you turn nearest the hasp first - you will feel the difference - hard to explain but the hasp moves more around the right number. And they get easier as you get the number right - the first one is the hardest, less noticeable -the final one will be the most obvious. I did a suitcase that belonged to my uncle after he'd died and we didn't know the combination it took less than a minute.

Otherwise try this
(it isn't the video I used and it was a different kind of master lock but same idea) and like I said I used a bit of milk carton for the 'shim' -you can use a bit of drinks can anything that is thin and sturdy enough.

Beckie222 · 15/07/2015 18:29

Is it a TSA lock?

ASettlerOfCatan · 15/07/2015 19:53

3 numbers? Put a film on and just go through the numbers in order. You will have it by the end credits. Better yet get DS to do it...

Hi all,

We're moving this thread over to our Travel topic so all the good advice doesn't disappear in 90 days. Smile

UPDATE

Well, settled down today as promised to start going through all the numbers. Put movie on with biscuits and ice-cream to hand. Opened windows for fresh much needed air as its going to be a long one and primed myself in lovely comfy chair.

Sooo...turned dials to 000.....suitcase flew open! just like that, of all the numbers we had tried, i though we had tried that but obviously we hadn'tBlush. I'm a bit deflated now, as suddenly all the excitement of seeing how fast we could turn the different combinations, and other MI5 case busting techniques have now flown out the window like a puff of smoke. Im rather SadConfused

Excellent!! You can always get someone to set a new code for you crack (but get them to write it down somewhere just in case)
