Hi,
Me again, forgot to ask, can we use our own in car dvd players in a 7 seater rental car in the States? Also do our mobile phones work over there, we are on Orange network, if not can we rent one? Has anyone also ever had tempory membership of the AAA, as if you have you can get loads of discounts!

Your phone has to be a tri-band based one in order for it to work. Making mobile phone calls back to the UK from the US can be extremely expensive. You'd probably be better off using a pre-paid phonecard instead.

AAA is I think only available for US citizens.

If the in car DVD player is battery powered and can be recharged with an adapter you should be able to use it in the car.

As long as the dvds and the player are compatible you can use it. We bought several dvds whilst we were living in america lastyear but can't play them on the player back in the uk. Our mobiles didn't work so we took out a 6month contract with a cheap phone (not sur if you can hire them though).

Further to the DVD issue:-

DVDs in the US are Region 1 encoded; DVDs in the UK and Europe are Region 2 encoded. Although region 2 (i.e UK bought) DVDs will work if you take with you your own UK bought DVD player (if the player is battery powered so much the better) no US bought disc will work in such a device. You need to bear that in mind.

You can buy a multi region DVD player in stores in this country which will overcome the problem of having region 1 discs for region 2. ASDA for instance sell multi region players. You may on the other hand be able to "chip" your existing DVD player to convert it to multi region (you need to google the model of DVD player you have).
