Family Friendly in Southern California/San Diego area

Hi, does anyone have any recommendations? We're thinking of going to San Diego with our DC (7 and 3) during the Summer holidays. We have friends to stay with some of the time but would also want to book some accommodation. We prefer self catering but it would be even better if it were on the grounds of a hotel where we could use the pool, facilities etc. Thanks

The Dana on Mission Bay in San Diego has two lovely pools and was very family friendly. It's not fully self catering but rooms have a fridge and microwave. It's also next to Seaworld so you see the fireworks for free each night.
