I took my children at half term. The queues for the really big slides were horrendous (and we arrived at about 10.15am), but it was possible to go on the shorter ones. DS1 (12) enjoyed it, DS2 (8) and DS3 (7) quite liked it but were a bit scared. I bottled out .

I think the presence of the slides lightened up the atmosphere - fewer disapproving stares when one said anything not entirely complimentary about the art.

I don't know how old your children are, mummydear, but if you're interested in taking them to the Holbein exhibition at Tate Britain you can take the Tate Boat there from Tate Modern. I recommend you go to Tate Modern first, particularly if you want to go on a big slide.

I took my 3 at halfterm as well but we decided not to wait for the slides - 40mins for short ones and 1hr queue for time slot 3 hours later for big ones. They all expressed a preference for Hamleys (to spend premium bond winnings!)

I thought it was an interesting exhibit though and would go back if the crowds were less - we went the first day of halfterm which was probably a mistake.

i was wondering about taking my dd (3) on sunday. is she too young, do you think?

mummydear · 09/11/2006 21:15

mine are 6 and 4 , but as the exhbition and Tate is free I thought what the hell, We can alsways go over to the natural History & Science Musemum.

I think that there ar mininum heights for the smallest slides . I will just go and check on website .

ok if quiet but otherwise queues are really bad - I wouldn't make a prior promise to go on the slides until you get there.

the tate oat is good and its not far to walk to the aquarium (street performers on the way) if you get put off the slides - you can get two for one entry to the aquarium on the days out london website

my 3 year old ds went on the slide and loved it.
