Playa blanca- hotel volcan vs dream gran castillo?

Hi,

Just looking into going to playa blanca in September. Have never been to canaries/all inclusive sun holiday before. But now with a nearly 2 year old in tow we think it might be nice to just laze around for a week.

So was wondering if anyone has stayed in either of the above hotels and has anything good or bad to say about them.

I know dream gran castillo is all inclusive only and hotel volcan is either B and B or half board. There seem to mixed reviews online Bout both and it's just difficult to decide where to stay.

Any opinions appreciated.

have not stayed at either, but I do know the resort well.

the dream gran Castillo is right at the very far end of the resort. it's where the pavement runs out. it does look lovely online but it is quite remote - quite a trek back to the main resort or even to the marina. but if you're AI then perhaps you're happy staying in and enjoying the facilities? the beach that is mentioned on the hotel website may be a 15 minute walk but it is a 15 minute walk with no path along a cliff top. the volcan hotel is close to the marina - better location IMO.

it depends what you want from a holiday? we've always stayed at the princesa yaiza. it's right next to the main beach and equidistant from the main port area and the marina. it was really an easy holiday when the kids were little as it was never too far to get anywhere.

Thanks for your feedback.

Princess yaiza looks lovely but bit more expensive and want a cheaper break.

Not sure if we'd like all inclusive or not, think I'm going to go for B and B in volcan. Generally we like active kind of holidays with a bit of wandering around. So potentially if we went all inclusive we'd just end up getting bored after a couple of days and head into town for lunches/dinner etc? Plus I'd be bit concerned that the food and drink might not be great in all inclusive?

The fact that gran castillo is that far out is definitely not ideal.

Thanks again

FWIW we always booked through sovereign. if you play around with dates and flights, you can knock quite a lot off the price?

enjoy!

Not stayed there but Volcan is lovely and there's a gate from pool area that opens just before entrance to the Marina complex so very handy. Treat yourself and pay for entrance to the Yaiza's Kikoland kids club one day - it's amazing.

gate to marina sounds great. are there nice places to eat there? is it expensive to eat out in playa blanca?

Lots of lovely places to eat in the Marina and along PB front. Eating out is averagely priced - not always bargain basement, but not expensive either. I always find Spain cheaper and better quality than the UK for eating out.

We've stayed at the Gran Castillo and really enjoyed it. It has lovely spacious, nicely decorated rooms and bathrooms and the food is very good. We went in April and the pools were cold but I imagine Sept would be perfect. It is at the end of the boardwalk but only a 15 minute pleasant stroll to Playa Blanca (we also used Kikoland - v good for small children). Playa Blanca has a lovely wide sandy beach. A good base.

We have just come back from Playa Blanca. We stayed at the 'other side' in near the Playa Flamingo beach. Playa Blanca is quiet spread out in general, we took a taxi to the Playa Dorada beach near Princes Yaiza and it only cost 4 euros. t' a beautiful place :)
