The latest you would go abroad before birth...

Hi,

Looking for some advice...

I would like one last holiday before baby arrives and I am due in October.

The last week I can fly is the first week in September.

I am not keen on going in the height of summer as I think it will be too hot (although northern France may be an option).

Would I feel too hot/big to go away at 33 weeks?!?!

I really don't have a clue which is why I am looking for advice.

The last week in August I would be looking at Northern Coastal Spain or Southern France.

We would probably fly as it is too far to drive from Scotland.

Although we are at a wedding in Wales in August. Could the best option be to continue to Northern France from there?!?!

Thanks

I went to Barbados at 32 weeks. Was fine; wear cool clothes and keep your water levels up

Depends, I wasn't big or uncomfortable at 33 weeks, in fact I'm not feeling big or uncomfortable now at 40 weeks, still don't really feel pregnant. Last couple of weeks I have got a bit uncomfortable sitting for long periods though, so that's something to consider flight-wise.
How are you carrying do you think? Hard to tell if it's your first.
I would probably have gone away up to 35 weeks ish, as long as everything was ok health-wise! :) In the high summer I'd make sure I was always by a pool and just chill out :)
Sounds good, hope you have a lovely holiday :)

I went to Spain at 34 weeks last time. I found the flight uncomfortable as it was a crappy ryanair flight with so room, but it was only 2 1/2 hours to bearable. It was much hotter than we expected (40 degrees in September!) but I just stayed out of the sun in he middle of the day, swam a lot etc. It was fine, but I had a fairly easy pregnancy and went away for a weekend 3 hours away at 39 weeks!
I went abroad this pregnancy at 30 weeks and found that tougher but that's because I was contending with a non sleeping toddler this time too!

I'm 33 weeks now with my third. I would be perfect happy to go away for a week now, especially if it was without my kids!!

I said I'd be a bridesmaid at my best friend's wedding at Lake Garda, then got pregnant (not intentionally!) and ended up being 35 weeks pregnant at the wedding! We were flying with BA, they will carry you up to the start of your 36th week so I just squeezed in under the deadline by a couple of days!

Everyone is different, but I've always loved being pregnant and never had any problems or even mildly annoying things like heartburn or swollen feet. I really enjoyed our week's holiday, and it wasn't like I could spend all day relaxing and resting because we already had DS who was almost 3 at the time. We did boat trips, walks and went up the cable car in the town we were staying at.

Just depends how you feel. Which ever way you decide to travel you need to buy some flight socks (sitting for hours in a car increases the risk of DVT just like flying does).

I flew at 34 weeks. I wouldn't have chosen to fly that late but I was living in Turkey but came back to the UK for the birth. I had no problems but it was rather uncomfortable being sat on a plane for 3.5 hours.

Spain or France aren't so far though.

Thanks ladies! Its good to hear all your experiences.

Sounds like I will be fine. I think/hope I will be quite neat as its only now at 18 weeks I have just started showing. I have also only gained 5lbs so far and am hoping if I keep reasonably fit and healthy I can continue to feel well until as close to the end as possible.

Looking forward to booking a wee break before life turns to chaos!!! Haha!!! Can't wait for my little girl to get here!

xx
