Feeding baby abroad

Hi,

Can anyone help me please? Under the care of the dietician my 16 month old son is still on readymade aptimil 1 with colief as he is struggling to tolerate anything else.

We are off to Spain soon and I wondered if anyone has any tips on travelling with formula or buying it out there. My parents have just got back and have searched all of the local supermarkets for the alternative, almiron 1.

Did they try pharmacies? I've been away with all my kids at various baby ages (they've all been formula fed). I brought enough to do me as hold luggage. I had to buy formula once and found the pharmacies had a bigger stock.

They tried the local one but had no luck. If it were the powder I would just take in the suitcase but as it is the readymade stuff I am worried about it all leaking.

Could you order it from boots after security and pick it up and take it on board as hand luggage?

Have thought about this but think we will need about 9 litres! That is a lot to carry on the plane with two kids. Might be only option though x

Can you get it delivered directly to destination? We considered amazon when we went abroad last year but unfortunately they didn't deliver to where we were going so ended up with 60 small bottles of ready made in the luggage. Heavy bag!

I live in Spain and you can buy readymade Almirón 1 but it's expensive - I just checked and it's about €7 for a pack of 4x70ml readymade bottles. Would powder be ok instead? Bottled water brands Lanjarón and various others (with a small graphic of a baby on the back) are suitable for making up bottles as they're low in sodium. You can buy it online from various pharmacies/supermarkets here and have it delivered to where you're staying although it's literally available in every single pharmacy and there's a pharmacy on almost every street. Happy to help you with an online order if your Spanish isn't too good!

Thanks everyone! It looks very expensive even if we could find it in Spain. I think I will order it for pick up in the airport and just take a very empty hand luggage bag to ensure we are allowed to take it in the plane. Thank you all xx

why would you take ready made when powder works so well and so easy? just wondering. leave bottled water in the sun and it will be perfect termperature and disolve so easily and one of those little shakers and your sorted. if in doubt make it up a bit dilute so baby gets a bit more liquid when its hot.

Op, if you call aptimil they can tell you the closest alternative to what you currently use. You could pre-order some at the airport then buy some of the aptimil recommended stuff in country. That saves you have to cart it all at once

Having the same issue working this out for DS. When you say boots airside do you mean collect it after security at departure airport? DH thinks you can have it waiting at other side but I think he's listened to half of a story and made up the ending!

Yes you order it for collection after security so it doesn't count as your hand luggage and doesn't need taste tested
