Where to stay in Orlando

We are going to Florida in August and are having a week in Miami and the keys. We are going to rent a house with a pool in Orlando for a week to do the parks but I am overwhelmed with the choice of different areas (there are over 2000 rentals available for our dates!).

Can anyone recommend a good area to stay? Ideally would like a gated community for safety but is this really necessary? We don't want anywhere too far out but hard to judge the distance.

Any recommendations ?

Oak Island Harbour/Formosa Gardens is great. It's our favourite location for ease of driving to the parks.

I agree, Formosa Gardens, Sunset Lakes, Lindfields area is the only place we'll stay now. Really convenient.

We have always stayed in the Davenport area. Great for access to the I-4 to the parks.

Highland Reserve, on Hwy 27. Lovely, and very convenient for the parks.

Windsor Hills Resort - gated, fab community pool, games area, playgrounds, tennis courts, cinema (small), and excellent quality of accommodation. 10 min drive to Disney Maingate. Almost always stay here now (stayed 4-5 times).

After extensive research, I've booked Windsor Hills for our stay next year. Advice online is to try and get a villa with a south facing pool. See? Extensive...
