DH and I escaping for short break to Rome next week without kids - who can recommend a restaurant or two? We will be staying near the Spanish Steps.

Ambasciata d'Ambruzzio has been highly recommended by a travel writer who is highly thought of. Check out their website.

Cul de Sac, just off the Piazza Navona, but more for the wine than the food. It's pretty shabby to look at, but has an enormous wine list , and the staff are friendly and willing to recommend wines for you to try. Food is average, but they lovely breads, cheeses, salamis etc. it's always packed with locals .

Or go to Freni e Frizioni in Trastavere for a delicious aperitivo (extensive buffet free with drink) then wander the beautiful cobbled streets with lots of restaurants - we ended up in a lovely pizzeria on a gorgeous square , with a very reasonably priced menu.
