I am going to visit Paris but don't know which transportation system would be affordable for me and where should i stay to spend one week in Paris.

It is the first time,i am going alone to trip so that's the reason asking the question.

Hi we always use the metro system when we go to Paris. Its straightforward and if you get a pass you can use it as many times as you need, Passes are available from metro stations by a kind of bank type machine that translates into english so you should be ok with that.
Its just like any other metro system there are maps in each station and you can get a map from the kiosk in the station so you can have some idea of how to get where you want to be before you get on the train.
Hope this helps

I second the Metro, very easy to use, fairly cheap and safe,we used it day and night with no problems.

We walked everywhere!

I'm just back from a week in Paris, and found the Metro/RER system very confusing. The maps are not nearly as simple and easy to read as the London underground maps. Trains are frequent though (though trains and stations not terribly clean).

IMO, it's easier to walk everywhere, as there is almost as much underground walking to get from pavement to correct platform, and when changing trains.
