Lisbon to Porto Coastline: where to stay

Any recommendations of places to visit & locations to stay along this coastline during August.

We have flights to Lisbon but quite fancy exploring several destinations rather than staying in one place.

We like beaches & culture & our DCs are early/mid teens.

We stayed on the coast north of Cascais near Lisbon last year, at the end of July, but my goodness it was windy. The coast is right on to the Atlantic so it's good for surfing but July and August are apprently the windiest months.

Cascais is nice though, and we found more sheltered. Not sure what there is between there and Porto though.
