American green cards

I'm being as vague as possible to protect my identity here as I have family on mumsnet.

A family member of mine has lived in the USA for 11 years and holds a green card. The marriage has broken down to the American spouse and the person in question wants to move back to the UK. Having had a green card for that long has the person in question lost their British citezenship or are they still a British citezen

Sorry, pressed too soon!

And if they are a British citezen, because they are fleeing USA due to marriage failure due to domestic violence, will they be entitled to benefits / housing etc x

No idea re benefits but as far as I understand it, holding a green card does not mean they have given up british citizenship.

Great thanks x

If there are children involved it could be more complicated.
