Has anyone been? I would like one in a city close to the airport, as I think that we will only have time for a 2 night visit.

Yes but luckily through work - I was at a big exhibition in Dusseldorf at the beginning of December one year and got to one. They were certainly very lovely and Xmassy and the gluhwein was fab! TBH I didn't think there was that much there to keep my interest for more than a couple of hours but maybe they push the boat out at other markets in other towns

We live in Berlin, just round the corner from one so we go every day for an hour or so (unless there's a blizzard) once they get set up.

What else do you want to do during your stay? I'd say probably Nuremberg? Dresden has a lot of nice old buildings, once blown to bits, now restored but I'm a bit wary of the East these days. You might find it interesting. Or how about Munich? Lovely old town? FIT could tell you about the Weihnachtsmarkt there

Check www.skyscanner.net

Which airport can you fly from? If Stansted why not look at Graz in Austria, was European city of culture in 2004(?), you can get there for GPB40 return in Dec(inc tax)....or Salzburg?

Sky Europe Manchester-Salzburg worth a look

Also Air Berlin to any major German city as SSSandy suggests
