Egypt with kids

Just wondered if any of you had ever done it (ie. gone on holiday to Egypt with your children!) We are off to Sharm el Sheikh next summer, despite having some reservations about the heat, immunisations, food etc.
I'd love to hear what you thought of it from a parent's POV - thanks!

Not been to Egypt but we took our red haired toddler to Tunisia this September and we had a brilliant time. The people loved children (men and women alike) and the climate was fine. Just time a sleep in the hotest part of the day (obviously depending on your child's age) and keep them covered up and I am sure you will have a great time. I would love to go back again.

P.s. my dd absolutely loved the food - she ate everything and had a cast iron constitution (unlike us!)

We are going to Hurghada this December. DD only needed typhoid and junior HepA jabs- one in each arm, one visit, not much bother!
Would think it will be hotter in summer though.
We are going all inclusive to a 5 star hotel so hopefully the food will be ok.

Went to Sharm at Easter with a 13 and 9 yr old. Obviously will be hotter in the summer. We all loved it, snorkeling etc. Stayed all inclusive and nobody had uspet stomachs.

We had Hep A and typhoid jabs which were fine. It is worthwhile having the booster for Hep A 6 - 9 months later as then immunity lasts for 10 years.

I went to Hurguarda last winter & no-one had any jabs...should we have had them - we asked and were told we didn't need any.......uh-oh

We are just back from our 2nd trip to Sharm, we have also been to Hurghada (Mark Warner).

We have had all the jabs.

Not affected by tummy problems.

Summer will be VERY hot though, so drink loads and after lunch rest in the air con room til it cools down a bit.

We like going in October, it is still over 30, but a comfortable dry heat.

My two love snorkelling, so it is fantastic.

When you arrive (if the airline haven't given you a landing card) go and get one from the counter.

If you are just going to Sharm (NOWHERE ELSE) you don't need to get a visa, but if you want to go on a trip to Ros Mohamed (sp?!) park or visit Cairo etc you will need to get a visa stamp, which you can get at the airport.

And pack loo roll, as they don't supply it at Sharm airport (and we were delayed for 7 hours on the way back!!)

Taba is the same re: loo roll. They make you pay for 2 sheets at the door into the ladies!!

We went in May... it hit 52 oC one day, but you just stay in the airconditioned bits of the hotel. We had no jabs at all. DH got an episode of vomiting coz he risked some dodgy looking fish one evening. Also, the bottled water with the pink labels (cheapest, but cannot remember name) has a high content of one particular mineral (maybe potassium but not sure) which gave many people the shites for a few days.
