Car seat on plane??

My husband and I are taking our 2 year old son to Florida in May. We are flying with BA economy class. The flight duration is approximately 9 hours. We've purchaed my son a ticket so he has his own seat. I've read somewhere that BA allow car seats to be taken on to the plane as long as they are a certain dimension. Has anybody done this? I think our car seat may be too big, can anyone recommend a small but safe car seat for a 2 year old? We will use the car seat in the hire car on holiday. Many thanks x

I've taken my DS's car seat on every flight we've been on, but it's always gone in the hold.
The kiddy car seat I've got is approved for aeroplane use.

If you search around on eBay for new ones, you can often get the older colours for £120ish.

The britax prince can use a lap belt and says it is flight approved. www.kiddicare.com/p/Britax_Prince_Car_Seat_-_Black_Thunder.htm
