break in West Cork

Any ideas for hotels or cottages in West Cork, Ireland? We are thinking of travelling around, taking a look at the islands off Baltimore. We are looking at this hotel www.westcorkhotel.com/ or should we go self catering? We are have 2 little ones...

Check out www.inishbeg.com. It has self-catering cottages and a heated pool. Lots of space for smallies to run around. It's about half-way between Skibereen and Baltimore.

Have a look on here for self catering accommodation around Baltimore. We love it around there, it's fabulous.

I would recommend the town of Rosscarbery. Lovely beaches nearby & plenty to do in the area if it's not beach weather. You can easily drive to the farthest reaches of West Cork & back in a day if you want to explore further afield.

And although it is very scenic, there is a dearth of beaches in the Baltimore/Schull area. You have to go back to the Rosscarbery area or all the way to Barleycove

The West Cork Hotel is pretty good - I actually got married there but I am not sure how great it would be with small children as it does lack much in the way of outdoor space. On the other hand its great for being a good centre for the area.

If you are thinking of self catering Skibb is grand but also look at Ballydehob, Baltimore and Schull.

As mentioned above Rosscarbery is lovely with a great beach at the Warrens. This hotel is nice
