Hospitals in Cyprus

Same as my other post. I'm looking to book a holiday for when I'll be around 30 weeks pregnant and wanted to know if anyone knew what the hospitals are like here? Thanks in advance

which part of cyprus?
are your travel insurers ok with this?

well, sorry, I am going to be a bit controversial here. if you haven't booked yet and your criteria is what the hospitals are like then perhaps you need to have a rethink about going this late in your pregnancy. you wont be able to fly beyond 34 weeks and you may be asked for a fit to fly letter from your GP not your midwife. I completely agree that it is sensible to take these precautions but if you are 30 + weeks then you wont cope with heat well and will be very hygiene conscious. no point booking and going this late if you aren't going to be able to relax and it sounds to me from your post that you aren't. good luck with the pregnancy.

I had dd in a cypriot hospital 6 months ago. Very happy to answer any specific questions but I didn't have any complaints at all.

Every government hospital has english speaking staff. Hospital was spotless, food was more than edible. My care was a bit fragmented and a different approach to the uk but I had a better experience than some of my friends did in the UK.

I travelled across the border and to mainland turkey whilst I was pg too and I was nervous about that but I needn't have been. I understand anyone being nervous about travelling whilst pg.

Dd was born on the south side in a government hospital close to the border and near many popular resorts. I had all my tests done privately though to save time and have a private pediatrician too because outpatients often have to hang around for ages but apart from that no complaints at all. My EHIC actually covered my emcs and the 5 days I was in for.

Oh and I had a room on my own with a sea view.

no implication that the cypriots don't know what they are doing; but travelling that late sounds quite iffy to me. Reasonable risk of getting stuck there, with consequent financial implications.

didn't hurt that couple in New York, of course, but that's probably not what you have in mind!

TBH I'm looking to travel next month so weather shouldn't be too hot. I'll be coming up to 30 weeks when I travel home. Thought better to be safe than sorry in case of any emergencies.

I travelled to Cyprus for a holiday partway through my last pregnancy. Developed a nasty urine infection and had to use their a&he at Paphos hospital. They just needed my passport for ID and I didn't have to pay anything. My wait time was around 5 mins and I was given IV antibiotics and a prescription for a course of oral ab's. All within an hr! Really fast and efficient service and it sorted me out.

I think there are worse places to travel to when pregnant.

I also wouldn't worry too much about the heat since it was warmer in the UK than in Cyprus last week but if it does warm up they're not shy with the air con it's easy to escape the heat.

In all honesty though I think the travelling itself is worse than how you're going to feel at your destination. A 45 minute domestic flight at 26 weeks was a challenge for me but I had a difficult pregnancy.

You will need a drs fit to fly note after 28 weeks.

I flew twice in late pregnancy with DC2. Flew to the Maldives at 29 weeks and back at 31 weeks and at 34 weeks flew to Spain to visit my Mum and back a week later.

Carried my fit to fly letters but was never asked for them but I didn't have a huge bump. I even gave it to BA in the hope I might be upgraded but no such luck!
