Places to visit in alacantie spain ?

My Dh has just booked us into a hotel for a week in September.
Near the marina in alacantie spain.
Any advice from anyone for places to visit / eat things to do ?
I know I can look online .. But last year I asked mumsnet about barcelona top tips and got some great ideas that I wouldn't have found on the internet.
Would be good to get some more personal recommendations.

Are you only in Alicante or do you have a car to get about? We went to the Murcia area a couple of years ago, Cartagena was nice for a walk around and so was Murcia itself.

No not hiring a car so walking or taxis.

with kids?
nice sushi restaurant called ELLAS and and another fab restaurant called ONEONE promounced On A on A . old town is pretty, sounds like you might be in the SolMelia?

Haven't really looked too closely yet at area .. All I know is hotel is near the marina/ beach.

its not the obvious choice for an adult holiday! we only know it because its en route to mumsnet favourite caserio del mirador. valencia has a lot more to offer and flights there are v similar to alicante. but for beach and cocktails you'll be fine. and there is an el corte ingles or two in town and you can get the boat out to the island for lunch, cant remember what the island is called.
