Where can we drive to in Europe this year?

Last year we drove up to Stockholm through Copenhagen, the year before we ended up in Montenegro.
We usually take a couple of weeks and have 4 kids aged 7-13.
We don't mind stopping at a couple of places on the way to our destination, but like to spend at least 4 night somewhere to relax. We don't mind staying near a beach for a couple of days but don't want to spend the entire time there. We like museums, walks, history and the odd themepark to placate the kids. We don't like centre parc type places and usually use Homeaway or AirBNB for accommodation.
Has anyone done any great road trips?

A few years ago we drove all through France down to Llafranc in the Costa Brava, stopping off in the Auvergne with a volcano "theme park", Carcassonne for history, a beautiful place called La Canourgue near the Gorges du Tarn, Disney and finally Le Touquet!
Llafranc is lovely and you can get to teh Pyrenees and interesting towns such as Figueres or Pals really easily.
Would love to do it all again!

That sounds like the sort of idea we are after. DH is keen to end up on the Costa Brava but we had a horrible holiday there about 7 years ago that really put me off Spain and Portugal!
If we can stop off at a few places in France, which I like more, then I can cope with a week in Spain, I think.

If you are looking for a stop off quite far down France, Millau is lovely. Some great campsites right on the river.

We don't camp but will look into it, thanks for the suggestion.
