Canaries or Balearics when 24-25 weeks pregnant? Advice welcome!

My hubby and I are currently trying to plan our last summer holiday before our baby arrives (I'm 8 weeks at the mo and we're thinking of going late July/early Aug so will be 24-25 weeks by then). We're looking at places like Majorca, Fuertaventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Tenerife etc, basically any warm places with nice beaches. Obviously I won't be able to do any water sports or activities like that, so we're looking for places where we can see a bit of culture as well as relax by the sea - any advice is welcome - where would you say are the best places to go/stay? Thanks in advance for any tips! Smile

I'd stick with Majorca, just because the flight is shorter. Puerto Pollensa is nice, but as you've said July/August you might find prices high and most places booked up with it being school holidays. Could you not go during the first two weeks of July before the english schools break up? Or are you/DH a teacher?

Don't forget to wear flight socks and check your travel insurance!

Thanks AliceMum09 - I don't have travel insurance at the mo so I'll be sure to check the small print when I do get it! Neither of us are teachers but unfortunately we have quite a few things on during the Summer months so the only dates we can go are when the English schools are off. It'll be better when we have a family though as we live in Scotland (where the summer holidays are different), so we'll make the most of cheaper times then!

Ibiza is lovely - stay inland in a nice little boutique place. There are some fun beach clubs and you can take a day trip to Formentera. Some nice walking and the castle in Ibiza town is interesting.

Majorca is nice - soller, deia, cap d'formentor all lovely. Palma itself is supposed to be fab too. Hire a car and you can pootle about nicely.

I've never been the greatest fan of the Canaries but if you want to just collapse on a beach, then that might be better - very hot though...

not much culture in the canaries and it will be very hot. what about barcelona, or one of the resorts by the coast nearby. that way you can combine beach and siteseeing.

just to check the obvious; you need to book your travel cover the moment you book the trip, so do some research on the insurance first.

loads to see and do in the Canaries - check weather averages as temperatures vary between islands and within islands due to mountains. Pick your place and there's culture as well as stunning scenery.

I went to Ibiza when I was 22 weeks pregnant, although we also had an almost 2 year old with us, it was lovely, very relaxing, flight wasn't too long. I felt rotten throughout all my pregnancies apart from that one week away, the sun and swimming really helped. I liked it so much we've been back quite a few times. In fact Ibiza was almost dd3s middle name Wink.

I went to Menorca when I was about 20 weeks pregnant. This was 17 years ago, so not current nfo!

Chose it as it was a short flight, and looked relaxing. There wasn't much to do particularly, but we did hire a car and tour the island. Visited Mahon, Ciutadella, gin factory

Was lovely and a nice last break before DC. Beaches are gorgeous. I was there in September and the weather was just perfect.

I don't think I would have wanted a flight any longer than the 2 hours - I had trouble folding out the tray table over my bump. Grin

Thanks all - I think we've decided to opt for Majorca after all, as it might be a bit cooler and who knows how big I'll be by then....hadn't even thought about the tray table issue, good point!!
