What to do in Menorca with 2 DCs

We're having a week in Menorca in August with DCs aged 8 and 6. We're staying in Son Bou - nowhere fancy but it is close to the beach and has pools so the DCs will be happy.

Is there anywhere interesting for children for us to visit? We're not necessarily going to hire a car but will if there is anywhere to visit. I had a look in a bookshop for a guidebook but drew a blank. I fear we are going to not leave the resort which is unusual for us.

Any tips would be great. x

We had lots of holidays in Menorca when DC were little. At 8 and 6 you couldn't drag them away from the pool or beach.
No great sights if I recall but we did a boat trip from resort.

Menorca is lovely. I would go to the zoo (Lloc de Menorca). Then Mahon, and take a boat trip round the harbour in a glass bottom boat, the harbour used to be a British naval base and the history is fascinating. The Somni horse show is great, I think it's on a couple of times a week. Cala Galdana is beautiful, worth a day out for a change of scenery. Fornells has lovely restaurants and a market.

You can take a boat trip around the coast, these mainly leave from Ciautadella. Menorca is small and very easily navigable, I would definitely hire a car and just see what takes your fancy! We stayed in Santo Tomas, the next resort along from Son Bou. The beaches are brilliant, the sea is smooth and shallow. Enjoy!

I'd definately recommend hiring a car, it's a small and quiet island, and very easy to drive around.

Besides the suggestions above, a visit to Monte Toro is good, fabulous views.

Also I believe there is a new waterpark at Arenal den Castell in the north if the island , as well as a couple along at the far west coast.

Most places are accessible by bus, and I believe that the bus service is good, but a car just makes it easier and quicker

We got the bus to Cuitadella which was worth the visit.
