Hi, I'm new here and in a panic! Supposed to be flying early on April 9th, but have just realised my child's passport has expired. I can only find a thread on mums net from 2012, and I'm wondering if anyone has had experience recently of renewing a child's passport in 2 days please?? With the Easter weekend we only have the 7th and 8th as working days. I can only find details of a 'Premium service' for renewing ADULT passports in 4 hrs, but not children's'. Huge thanks

Should be the same process. If you can get to a passport office then could do same day

Luvvies · 03/04/2015 17:12

I may be completely wrong but have you tried calling them? I thought they had out of hours call handlers now?

I think ( sorry) that you are stuck. They don't do the premium service for childs passports its only fast track . However you can call them on holidays and weekends www.gov.uk/get-a-passport-urgently

According to the website you can't use the Premium Service for either first or renewed child passports. I would give them a call and see what options you have. Good luck.

I had to renew my son's passport the year before last and got it done in 2 days - I took it to an agent in London (who have guaranteed fast track slots), dropped it their office one day and got it back the next. You pay handsomely for the service, but at least you get to go on holiday...

Not sure if I can post the name, so PM me if you want the details...

They've changed the law recently (within the past couple of months) and you ant renew a passport using the premium service. I think you can do it in about a week.
I'd look at rearranging your travel plans/insurance etc.

I've called and the quickest they can do is an appt on Tuesday at 3.30pm, and then an 8 day wait for the passport. That's 'Fast track'!! Now to look at other flights…..but I'm a teacher and can't get time off...

Hi all
I'm not sure if this is the correct place to write, but thanks to 'Framboisier' for helping me find my thread!

I just wanted to let you all know how the passport fiasco ended up. Well, I had to wait for the whole of the Easter weekend to be over, until the Tuesday 7th, when I had an appointment at the Liverpool passport office at 3.30pm. IMPORTANT NOTE: I ignored all warnings and went at the crack of dawn as it opens at 8am. With husband and son with me, to prove one of us wasn't trying to kidnap him! The staff were very kind and lovely, and saw us early, by 9am. However, they did keep repeating "There's only a 7 day service for children's renewals." We were due to fly in 48 hrs!! Rather despondent we came home, having paid £87. I then spent the whole of the next day ringing the passport advice line, on and off, and tracking where the new passport was up to. by 8pm all the phone lines went down, but I knew it had gone for printing! We missed our flights the next morning as they were very early - but my husband and other son flew. I dropped them at the airport, came home and rang the courier service. the new passport was there, at their depot!! They have depots all over the Uk, so by 8am I'd collected it from the depot near us. Literally 48 hrs after our application at the passport office. So we flew later that same day. Phew!!!! I would not wish such a stressful time of uncertainty on anyone, so please check all your passports in good time!!
