Where to go for some winter sun in March?

I am looking at the possibility of a child free (!) holiday next year, and March would be ideal timing wise. I'm rather excited but want to see where we could possibly go and try to narrow down destination options.

Not sure where has good weather that time of year?? Any suggestions appreciated.

What's your budget? How long can you go for? Are you looking for a beach, alcohol and sunlounger type holiday, or somewhere more sedate.

Caribbean is ideal at that time, many beautiful islands all different.

It would be a week away, I can't afford 5*luxury, would be more of a reasonably priced getaway for 2 adults.

Beach, alcohol, sunshine, etc. I do like to be able to explore or do excursions and not just be confined to a resort that could be anywhere in the world.

I would have suggested the Canaries- but after a wet, sunshine free short break just last week, then maybe not!

usually we have had good weather there though. Ideal distance to travel if you only have a week.

Alternatively - I haven't been, but how about Cape Verde islands? I think about 5 hours flight?

Caribbean options look good.

Short flight to Cape Verde very appealing! (I'm not scared of flying but I don't enjoy it).

Nothing to do outside hotels in cape Verde.

What is the budget?

YourHandInMyHand · 02/04/2015 18:56

I am not sure on specific budget, need to talk to DP and discuss what we want to set it at (we don't live together so have separate finances), but personally I'd like to keep it under 2K.

I would like it to be a bit nicer than basic/budget but can't get too spendy as we are planning to save up for other stuff too including moving in together.

£2k each would get you a good holiday in Caribbean

Egypt. We went in February half term and wether was great. Money goes a long way there. In the Caribbean the Dominican Republic (specifically punt a Cana) is very good value and easily in budget.

riverboat1 · 03/04/2015 20:03

I would second Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic - though when we went we did a shamefully non-exploratory week-long stint during which we didn't leave the massive hotel complex much, except for long walks up and down the beach and coast.

YourHandInMyHand · 06/04/2015 21:17

I hadn't considered Egypt but the prices are good and the flight times aren't as long Smile

We went 11-18 feb and it was high 20's so march will be nudging 30 degrees.

YourHandInMyHand · 13/04/2015 18:18

Oh that sounds lovely, I love hot weather. Def looking like it will be Egypt.
